Pricing and totals

Rates, discounts, charges, tax, and why unpriced is not zero.

The arithmetic on a quotation. The item code may carry a list price; option rates, when present, come from the catalogue-wide rate book. Either way, a missing rate is unpriced, not zero.

The chain

  1. Gross (qty × rate per line).
  2. Less line discounts.
  3. Less overall discount (percentage wins where both a percentage and a flat amount are set) (R44).
  4. That is basic value.
  5. Plus charges (packing & forwarding, freight, transit insurance, installation, third-party inspection) → taxable value.
  6. Plus GST → grand total.

Tax is charged on the taxable value, not on the basic value (R41). GST is 18% as IGST, or CGST+SGST at 9% each. Packing, freight and installation billed by us are inside the tax base.

Charges are not all the same

Setting Meaning On the printed quotation
On, with an amount We are billing it Shown
On, at zero We checked; it is free Left off rather than shown as 0
Off The buyer bears it Left off; the term that says they bear it stays

They are not interchangeable (R42).

Guards

  • Any line without a rate makes the whole quotation unpriced (R37).
  • A discount can never become a surcharge (R43).
  • Only fully resolved lines print or send (R38).
